Public Relations:
Columbia City-an inner-city neighborhood with a charming historic district, revitalized businesses and abundant activities-needed public attention. Retailers and restaurants needed the foot traffic that comes with being a "cool" place to be.
The Columbia City Business Association hired Muir Public Relations to create a yearlong media campaign and provide media training for community leaders. The campaign is an example of how persistent, thorough media relations produce remarkable results. (See the list of articles below.)
At the beginning of the publicity campaign the Puget Sound Business Journal asked "Where is Columbia City?" Just 20 months later, Sunset Magazine listed Columbia City in its "Best of the West" issue as one of the West's best places to live, quoting exactly the campaign's language and focus.
Following is a list of the media interest in the year of our campaign:
- "Roll on Columbia City: Columbia City Undergoes Gradual Growth," Seattle Post Intelligencer, February 20, 2001; 81 column inches including major full-color photo.
- "Columbia City Shows New Signs of Life," Puget Sound Business Journal, November 2000; 52 column inches with photo.
